Room 3 have been very busy planting potatoes as part of our farming in Scotland topic. We are excited to see how many potatoes we manage to grow.
Room 3 will be visiting East Law Farm and Tesco in Carluke on the 28th March as part of our Social Studies topic ‘Farming in Scotland’. We will be learning about the production of milk from farm to fork. Please look out for more detailed information about this trip nearer the time.
We would like to use this space to celebrate pupil’s achievements. If your child has participated in an event or has been awarded a certificate, medal etc. out with school please remember to let us know by writing a note in their diary. Also remember to ask for a wider achievement form from the school office so that the achievement can be displayed on the wider achievement wall.
We got a big surprise after the Christmas holidays…a huge beanstalk started to grow in our classroom! The beanstalk has inspired us to do lots of literacy activities based on Jack and the Beanstalk this term. We are going to explore the characters and work towards write our own version of the story.
We are going to be learning about money. We will be learning to make totals up to £1 using coins from 1p to 50p. We will practise our money skills in our Farm shop in Room 3. Helping to count coins at home or when shopping will support your child with their learning during this topic.
This term we will be focusing on the topic ‘Included’ in Health and Wellbeing. We will be learning that people have similarities and differences and to value these characteristics in ourselves and others.
Term 4 in PE will be focussing on athletics and learning about the different athletic components and actions of running, jumping and throwing. The children will be learning how to use their lead leg for gaining a stride pattern whilst jumping over hurdles and also how to gain distance whilst throwing objects from a standing position. Please note for the safety of all pupils it is important that your child has secure fitting, non-slippery indoor shoes and removes all jewellery for these sessions. Loose and/or long hair should also be tied back.
Our social studies topic this term is ‘Farming in Scotland’. We will be exploring urban and rural places using Google maps to find out if Law is urban or rural. We will learn about how some of the land in Law is used and the different types of farming that take place in our village. We will learn about products produced in Scotland and we might even try to grow some of our own vegetables!
In science we will be learning about forces. We will be taking part in practical investigations to explore pushes and pulls.
